How to clean a wool rug, step by step
- Vacuum gently both sides, without a rotating beater bar.
- Blot spills immediately from the outside in. Never rub.
- Spot clean with cool water and a little mild wool-safe detergent, then blot dry.
- Deep clean with cool water and mild soap, rinse, and squeeze gently.
- Dry flat, away from direct heat and sun.

Why never use hot water or steam on wool
Wool is a natural protein fibre. Heat plus moisture plus agitation causes it to shrink and felt permanently. That is why steam cleaners and hot-water extraction, which are fine for synthetics, can ruin a wool rug.
